How Tafer Began
Tafer Group’s trajectory began when its owner formed The Villa Group with partners at the end of the 1980s. The Villa Group began with just one property, Villa del Mar in Puerto Vallarta and soon went on to open Villa del Palmar in Puerto Vallarta. These resorts were well received by the public, and so Tafer’s owner and Villa Group partners chose the luxury vacation hotspot of Cabo San Lucas to open its next set of hotels where. Soon after Cabo San Lucas was home to Villa del Palmar Cabo, Villa La Estancia and Villa del Arco resorts.
Puerto Vallarta experienced such popularity as a vacation destination that surrounding areas began to see investment and development. Nuevo Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit, was one such place which received interest due to its proximity to Puerto Vallarta. The Villa Group invested in the Villa del Palmar Flamingos resort in Riviera Nayarit, and soon added the high-end Villa La Estancia resort to their collection in the city.
It was during this period that Tafer Group’s owner started development in the Sierra Madre mountain range near the town of Mascota, Jalisco. The resort, called Sierra Lago, started off as just a few cabins in a beautiful location, but soon grew into a wonderful boutique resort with a heated outdoor pool, games room, sports courts, an outdoor chapel, two restaurants and a full complement of activities to enjoy. Following this Tafer Group opened Villa del Palmar in Cancun.
